Snelkoppeling-pijltjes verwijderen
Tip voor Windows '98 / XP
Ook genoeg van die pijltjes in de pictogrammen op het bureaublad die aangeven dat het om een snelkoppeling gaat? Daar gaan we dan wat aan doen.
Start de registereditor via Start / Uitvoeren, tik regedit en geef een Enter.
Navigeer in het linkerscherm naar HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT / lnkfile. Selecteer de sleutel lnkfile door er op te klikken.
In het rechterscherm zie je dan een aantal waarden waaronder IsShortcut. Selecteer deze waarde en druk op Delete. Bevestig je keuze en sluit de editor via Bestand / Afsluiten.
Start Windows opnieuw en zie: de pictogrammen op het bureaublad zijn ontdaan van de pijltjes.

Google koopt online tekstverwerkingsprogramma
Concurrent van Microsoft Office Live

Google heeft het online tekstverwerkingsprogramma Writely gekocht. Daarmee heeft het bedrijf een directe concurrent van Microsoft Office Live in handen. Microsoft wil met het Live-platform online applicaties bieden in abonnementsvorm. Met Writely kunnen gebruikers documenten online publiceren en aanpassen. De software is ontwikkeld door het bedrijf Upstartle.

Microsoft heeft veel ervaring met kantoorapplicaties; Office is niet meer weg te denken uit de computerwereld. Google op zijn beurt is specialist in online diensten. Nu beide bedrijven kantoorapplicaties als online service gaan aanbieden, komen ze in elkaars vaarwater terecht.



In oktober vorig jaar dook voor het eerst het gerucht op dat Google de concurrentie wil aangaan met Micosoft Office. Google sloot toen een overeenkomst met Sun, waarbij de bedrijven besloten OpenOffice.org actief te zullen promoten, onder andere via de Google Toolbar. Daarmee nam Google voor het eerst stelling tegen Microsoft Office.

De oprichters van Writely erkennen dat hun product nog lang niet uitontwikkeld is, maar menen dat de service dankzij Google nu snel volwassen zal worden. "Writely is als een rups die bij Google in een mooie vlinder zal veranderen", aldus Upstartle in een poëtische bui.

"Sommige mensen durfden hun documenten niet toe te vertrouwen aan een klein, nieuw bedrijf. Nu zijn we niet langer een nieuw, klein bedrijf." Upstartle belooft dat de overname geen gevolgen zal hebben voor de huidige gebruikers van Writely; zij zouden in principe niets moeten merken van de wisseling van de wacht.

OneCare beschermt tegen spyware
Nieuwe functie, nieuwe naam


Microsoft breidt de beveiligingssuite OneCare verder uit met bescherming tegen spyware. De antispywarecomponent is gebaseerd op de bèta van Windows Defender, Microsofts eigen antispywareprogramma.

De integratie van de antispywarebescherming is nog niet optimaal, geven ontwikkelaars van OneCare toe, maar dat zal verbeteren als ook Windows Defender de bètafase ontgroeit. Andere wijzigingen aan OneCare zijn een verbeterde stabiliteit en snelheid, laat Microsoft weten.



Ook de naam van de beveiligingssuite krijgt een update. Om de link met de andere Windows Live-diensten te benadrukken, verandert de naam van de dienst van Windows OneCare Live naar Windows Live OneCare.

Windows Live Onecare is een bundel beveiligingssoftware die in abonnementsvorm wordt aangeboden. OneCare combineert antivirus, antispyware, een firewal, backup- en optimalisatiesoftware voor Windows-computers. Microsoft wil de dienst eerst in de VS aanbieden, vermoedelijk vanaf juni. Een abonnement zal 49,95 dollar kosten. maar is nu nog gratis.
