Tweakers.net - Software updates [ ImgBurn 2.3.0.0 ]
ImgBurn is gisteren voorzien van een update naar versie 2.3.0.0. Dit programma lijkt qua uiterlijk erg veel op DVD Decrypter en dat is ook niet zo gek, want het is van dezelfde maker. Er zijn helaas niet alleen overeenkomsten, maar ook verschillen. Wat er niet meer in zit, is de mogelijkheid om dvd's te rippen. Onder druk van een niet nader genoemd bedrijf is het omzeilen van de kopieerbeveiliging namelijk verwijderd. Wat overblijft is een programma waarmee cd's en dvd's kunnen worden gebrand. Ook kunnen booktype en bitsetting worden ingesteld, kunnen herschrijfbare schijfjes leeg worden gemaakt en kan het helpen bij het bepalen van het zogenaamde breekpunt van een dual-layer dvd. Windows XP bevat diverse DLL-bestanden met functies en bronnen die programma's nodig hebben om in de Windows-omgeving te kunnen functioneren. Nadeel is dat DLL-bestanden standaard in het geheugen aanwezig blijven, ook al is het programma dat de DLL's heeft aangeroepen inmiddels afgesloten. U kunt dat echter door middel van een ingreep in het Windows Register wijzigen. Maak altijd eerst een herstelpunt voordat u wijzigingen in het Windows Register gaat aanbrengen. Handel daarna als volgt:
Kies Start >> Uitvoeren.
Typ in het dialoogvenster Uitvoeren de opdracht regedit en klik op OK.

Normaal worden de partities van uw harde schijf geïndexeerd om zo het zoeken te versnellen. Deze functie uitzetten zorgt dat de schijf sneller wordt. Uiteraard gaat het zoeken dan iets langzamer. Kies Start >> Deze Computer en klik met de rechter muisknop op de schijfletter. Uit het snelmenu dat verschijnt, kiest u Eigenschappen. Zet vervolgens de optie Deze schijf indexeren om zoekacties te versnellen uit en klik op OK."

WindowBlinds 5.5 Officially released! - An Article by Frogboy
Stardock released WindowBlinds 5.5 today. WindowBlinds is a program that enables users to customize the look and feel of the graphical user interface of Microsoft Windows. Disable unnecessary services the quick and easy way · Vista Rewired
You have probably seen numerous service disabling guides around already. However, we have organized this tutorial differently. We have sorted them into categories so you can easily disable the ones that have little or no noticeable affect on the way Vista operates, but at the same time, improving performance.
I have only listed services for you to disable that have been activated by Windows by default. While you might have spent more time looking through the services to find which ones were actually activated on your PC, the ones listed here are actually enabled services on your PC if you haven’t already disabled them.
With over 134 services running in Windows Vista, it wouldn’t hurt to disable the ones you don’t need.

Removing the shortcut arrow from Vista - Neowin Forums
Click on the ORB and type regedit where it says Start Search. You will see regedit in the left pane. Click on it and the Registry Editor will open. Click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Search for lnkfile. Find the one that is in the left pane. You may come accross some in the right pane. When you come to the right one you should see the following in the right pane:

EditFlags
FriendlyTypeName
IsShortcut
Rename IsShortcut to AriochIsShortcut
Close Regedit and reboot.
The shortcut arrows should be gone.

Firefox tweak
Firefox kan veel sneller! Het duurt hoogstens een minuut en het zal je daarna veel tijd besparen!
Stap 1: Typ "about:config" in de adresbalk van Firefox en druk op ENTER.
Dubbelklik nu met je linker muisknop op "network.http.pipelining.maxrequest". Er verschijnt een klein schermpje op je beeld met een balkje waar een getal in staat. Verander dit getal naar 15 en druk op "OK". (Natuurlijk kun je hier zelf een beetje mee expirimenteren, bij mij werkte 15 uitstekend)

Na de overstap naar Windows Vista kan het gebeuren dat sommige van uw oudere programma's niet goed meer werken onder Vista. Met de wizard "Programmacompatibiliteit" kunt u veel oudere programma's toch goed binnen Vista laten werken. Hoe dat gaat leest u hier. Probeer het programma eerst normaal op te starten. Als dat mislukt, neem dan de volgende stappen:
Klik op de Start-knop, open het Configuratiescherm en klik op "Programma's"
Klik op "Een ouder programma met deze versie van Windows gebruiken" om de wizard te starten.
Klik op "Volgende". U kunt nu het problematische programma automatisch of met de hand opzoeken.
De computer maakt een lijst van alle beschibare programma's. Selecteer het programma in de lijst en dubbelklik hierop.
Kies nu de meest waarschijnlijke versie van Windows waarmee het programma zou moeten werken en klik op "Volgende".
Vink de gewenste visuele instellingen aan en klik enkele malen op "Volgende" om het programma uit te proberen.
De wizard vraagt of het programma goed werkt. Is dat niet het geval, ga dan terug en probeer het met andere instellingen.
NB: De wizard werkt niet voor alle oudere programma's. Sommige software bijvoorbeeld is zo specifiek voor Windows XP ontworpen, dat deze nooit goed onder Vista zal werken. Hosts
Het Hosts-bestand:
In Windows zit een bestand genaamd hosts. In dit bestand zijn IP-adressen in combinatie met een site te vinden. Met het hosts-bestand kan je site’s blokkeren, maar ook een site aan een ander IP-adres koppelen waardoor de verkeerde site wordt geopend.
Waar is het Hosts-bestand te vinden:
Het hosts-bestand is te vinden op de harde schijf in de volgende map:
Windows 9X/ME C:\WINDOWS
Windows 2000 C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Windows XP C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Wat is er in het Hosts-bestand te vinden:
Als je het Hosts-bestand opent met kladblok krijg je te zien wat er in staat.
In het hosts-bestand is één regel die er altijd in staat. Dat is de volgende:
127.0.0.1 localhost
Als er andere regels in staan heb je deze er of zelf ingezet of ze zijn erin gezet door een programma. Er zijn ook schadelijke bestanden (virussen/trojans/spyware) die er regels inzetten. Het gevolg hiervan kan zijn dat je bepaalde site’s niet kan bereiken, maar ook dat je naar een site wordt omgeleidt waar een ander schadelijk bestand te vinden is.
Voorbeelden
Hier staan twee voorbeelden. Het gevolg (voor als dit in je Hosts-bestand staat) is te vinden onder je regel :

Blokkeren:
Op de volgende manier kan een site worden geblokkeerd met behulp van het Hosts-bestand:
1. Open het Hosts-bestand met kladblok
2. Begin onder 127.0.0.1 localhost op een nieuwe regel.
3. Typ 127.0.0.1 in
4. Druk één keer op tab.
5. Vul de site in waar het om gaat. Als voorbeeld neem ik www.google.nl
6. Je hebt nu een regel staan. Bijvoorbeeld 127.0.0.1 www.google.nl
7. Sla het bestand op via bestand->opslaan.
8. Je bent nu klaar en de site is geblokkeerd. In dit geval is dat www.google.nl
Verwijzingen:
Een verwijzing kan je doen door een IP-adres van een andere site neer te zetten. Bijvoorbeeld:
216.239.59.104 www.yahoo.nl
Het IP-adres 216.239.59.104 hoort bij Google, maar wordt nu gekoppeld aan www.yahoo.nl
MVPS Hosts:
MVPS Hosts is een bestand waarmee je het originele Hosts-bestand kunt overschrijven. Door MVPS Hosts wordt een groot aantal site's geblokkeerd. Het gaat om site's waardoor malware wordt verspreid. Het kan echter voorkomen dat jij wel MVPS Hosts wilt gebruiken, maar dat je wel naar een site wil die geblokkeerd is. Je kan dan naar het Hosts-bestand toegaan en de regel met die site uit het Hosts-bestand verwijderen. Het zoeken kan je het beste doen met de zoekfunctie van kladblok (bewerken->zoeken). Na het verwijderen van de regel kan je de wijzigingen opslaan via bestand->opslaan.

Problemen:
Als je door veranderingen in het Hosts-bestand problemen hebt kan je met TheHoster het originele HOSTS-bestand terugzetten. Dit kan je doen op de volgende manier: Pak het bestand hoster uit naar een eigen map. Start daarna TheHoster en klik op "Restore Original Hosts".

The process itself takes some time depending on the size of the file which seems to be the major factor of course. A second option that the service offers is to upload a file and let the service convert the file for you. The time that this process takes depends of the upload speed of your internet connection.
The major advantages of using the media convert service is that you can use their service to convert a needed file into a format that you can edit and read using your computer and that you do not need to install a software to convert files anymore.

KMS server
no product key or incorrect product key entered when install Windows Vista. The solution is to open command prompt with administrator rights, and key int the following command:
cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -ipk YFKBB-PQJJV-G996G-VWGXY-2V3X8
If it’s not working, try to reinstall the Windows Vista with the product key.

Screen savers Vista
Windows Vista has a few free built-in screen savers that comes by default with every Windows Vista installation. The default screensavers include Ribbons, Mystify, Aurora and Bubbles. MS gebruikt alleen maar deze 24 tekens in de sleutels:

Verder zijn er hier en daar ook nog wel wat beperkingen, zoals dat er geen keys zijn met alleen maar cijfers en alleen maar letters.
Maar goed, zelfs als je die beperking niet meeneemt, dan heb je dus maximaal zo'n log2 2425 ~ 114 bits aan informatie in de key.
Dit is op te delen in 12bit + 31bit + 62bit + 9bit.
De verdeling is: 12bit: OS Family, 31bit: Hash, 62bit: Signature en 9bit: Prefix.
De hash is te berekenen uit de signature en deze is 62 bits lang.
Het berekenen van de juiste (door MS geheim gehouden) private key is dus ongeveer van de complexiteit O(231) Als je die key hebt kun je heel snel sleutels genereren.
Zolang je die private key dus nog niet hebt, is deze methode van brute-force "keygenereren" een goede manier, alleen is er nog best wel wat ruimte voor verbetering.
De hele berekening van de key is bekend (ik zit dit niet zelf te verzinnen, staat allemaal online 
) en deze methode kan prima gebruikt worden om de keys te valideren.
Door nu de random keys wat meer in een bepaalde vorm te kneden voordat je ze gaat testen, zou je best wel eens een heel stuk sneller werkende keys kunnen vinden.
